Piero Gilardi (3rd August 1942, Turin – 5th March 2023, Turin) was an italian sculptor and visual artist. Born in Italy from a Swiss family, he studied at the Liceo Artistico in Turin. He gained great fame with the Tappeti natura (Nature Carpets) in 1965: these works, made from polyurethane, realistically reproduce fragments of the natural environment, serving both a playful purpose and as a critique of an increasingly artificial way of life.
