Mauro di Silvestre

Born in Rome in 1968, Di Silvestre studied painting in Los Angeles and Rome. He has received several public awards, including the Città di Lissone Prize in 2001 and the Celeste Prize in 2004, where he won second place and the award dedicated to the Emerging Painters category, respectively. His first solo exhibition took place in 2007 at the Z2o Gallery in Rome, with a catalog text by Achille Bonito Oliva. In the summer of the same year, he held a solo exhibition titled Lontano da casa (Far from Home) at the Spazio Millesimato in Montalcino, curated by Graziella Lonardi Buontempo and Giancarlo Buontempo. Di Silvestre’s works are characterized by a visual layering of decorative patterns that emerge over images drawn from intimate and personal memory. The images he represents are born from mnemonic gestures, faces, and figures that fade and reappear behind a veil of patterns, often becoming visible or barely perceptible.
