Mario Sironi (Sassari, 1885 – Milan, 1961) was one of the most celebrated artists of the first half of the 20th century. Throughout his career, Sironi adhered to various artistic movements and even founded one along with other artists, such as the Novecento Italiano movement. Over time, Sironi was a member of Futurism, the Italian avant-garde movement born in 1909 with the famous manifesto by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (Alexandria, Egypt, 1876 – Bellagio, 1944). Subsequently, he was also influenced by the Metaphysical movement, founded in the 1920s by Giorgio de Chirico, and by expressionist painting. Furthermore, Sironi distinguished himself for his role in the revival of mural painting, of which he became the most important exponent of his time.
