David Bowes

David Bowes (born 1957) is an American painter based in Turin, Italy. He gained recognition in the early 1980s in New York’s East Village.He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the 1970s and later taught painting there.

Known for his brightly colored paintings with loose strokes, Bowes references allegories, mythology, and art history. He has been praised for his delicate touch and fascination with paint.

His work is exhibited in the U.S. and Europe. He participated in the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999, and his work is included in Lucio Amelio’s Terrae Motus collection at the Royal Palace of Caserta. His pieces are also held in museums such as the Walker Art Center, Portland Art Museum, and the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA.
