Carla Accardi

Carla Accardi rose to prominence as a founding member of the Forma 1 avant-garde movement in 1947, a group of artists based in Rome who, in response to fascism, embraced the principles of Futurism and Marxism. As one of the key figures of abstract art in Italy at the time, Accardi developed an iconic visual lexicon of calligraphic signs. Combined with her minimalist color palette and dynamic compositions, her work showcased the infinite possibilities of abstraction.
