Abstraction. Colour. Pattern

A young Carla Accardi in 1947 was among the founders of the Forma 1 group ( along with Turcato, Dorazio, Consagra, Sanfilippo, Perilli and others). This group represented the first moment of Italian re-proposal of the question of abstraction.

In the ’50s her work matured until reaching the formulation of the famous ‘grovigli’ (tangles) white on black, which propelled her career to international level.

Later on, her research focused on the problem of the connection between signs and surfaces, with particular attention to the nature of the support ( canvas and raw canvas, transparent plastic…) and coloristic relationships, always bright and decisive.
